Driven: The Edwardian Cyborg Wheelchair
Who says a wheelchair should only function?
Driven is the first in the Opulent Mobility series, artworks devoted to re-designing and re-envisioning mobility.
Base: a Nutron R51 electric wheelchair
Upholstery: recycled sofa, donated draperies, plywood, couch cushions and leather jackets
Decor: Salvaged hardware and sewing accessories, including engine ball bearings, vent filters, antique pulleys, springs, washers, zipper teeth, tacks and snap tape.
Driven started life as an electric wheelchair donated by a chair-bound friend and a dream of re-making wheelchairs into thrones. Driven was published in 1000 Steampunk Creations by Dr. Grymm and is due to be published in Steampunk: A Complete Guide to Victorian Techno-Fetishism by Vienna Von Schwartz.
