Otherwise known as the Steampunk Wheelchair…
Why should disability devices not inspire desire?
Driven is a piece I’ve done for a chair-bound friend who has graciously allowed me to update his old wheelchair- and include him as living art in a Cannibal Flower gallery show. The chair was also included in an online exhibit through Arts and Bodies and was graciously included in Dr. Grymm’s “1000 Steampunk Creations”. It’s due to be published in Vienna Von Schwartz’s upcoming book Steampunk: A Complete Guide to Victorian Techno-Fetishism.

Base: a Nutron R51 electric wheelchair
Upholstery: a combination of recycled sofa, drapery, plywood and leather jackets
Decor: Salvaged hardware and sewing accessories, including engine ball bearings, vent filters, antique pulleys, springs, washers, zipper teeth, tacks and snap tape.
