PAGES I LOVE…
The LA Visionaries Association. What can I say that the Post didn’t? ”[LAVA is] a network of creative types and thinkers working to grow Los Angeles up.” – The New York Post.
Anything you want to know or never knew you needed to know about LA is available through LAVA. Kim Cooper and Richard Schaeve’s Esotouric bus tours of the LA of Raymond Chandler and Charles Bukowski, Al Ridenour’s Art of Bleeding, Crimebo the Clown, Bob Baker and his marionettes and Chicken Boy are all featured. This is the LA you really want to see.
The Haggus Society is an arts collective for feminist artists over 40 with an edge. And they rock. Terri Lloyd (aka the Pink Buddha), Monica Marsh and Nina Ehlig have kick-started a great program.
No more boring and under-appreciated art!

Cat Staggs does beautiful comic art, pin up and illustrations in the grand old Sci-Fi tradition. And she’s made a mutual friend (her wife) into one of her comic characters. How romantic is that?
I’ve worked with the fine folks of Theatre Banshee since 1994. They do consistently well-thought out and directed work. I’m proud to have been a company member of such a fine troupe.
If you have need of Lovecraft memorabilia, want to take an insanity quiz, missed out on The Call of Cthulhu silent film or just want a Shoggoth Solstice tentacle stocking, it’s a must-see. The H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society even has Shoggoth resistant panties!
I’ve worked with Diavolo Dance Theatre on and off for many years. Even if you never thought you’d like a dance concert, give them a try. It’s the most insane, acrobatic, stunning and death-defying work you’ve seen. And yep, some of my designs are in their repertoire.
INSPIRATION SITES:
Artists who keep my love alive.
Clare Graham for his stunning reclaimed art, of pop tops and Scrabble tiles, tin cans and dominoes, yardsticks and buttons. This man turns obsessive collecting into the finest of art. http://www.claregraham.com/ARTpageHOME.html
Morgan Gehris and Morgan Couture. These body sculptures make me giggle and squirm uncomfortably at the same time. http://morganculture.com/
Iris Van Herpren and the squidlike plastic tentacle fashion fantasies. You have to see it to believe it. http://www.irisvanherpen.com/
Brian Dettmer and his surgical book sculpting. This is what books dream of becoming. His surgically extracted book sculptures are mind-bending. http://briandettmer.com/
And now for some shop listings. These are great and fun people who make it possible for individual craftspeople to thrive. Bravo!
AD 2013 isn’t just a doomsday prophesy- it’s a marvelous store. Not for the faint of heart- but who has time to be tentative?
Say hello to Elijah and Alexandra for me…
Grace Ellay rocks. It’s a gallery, collective and one of the cooler places to get clothing and accessories. Thanks to Ramey Arnold for giving my first jewelry pieces a home!

The Majestical Roof is all about local artists, with NO MMP (mass-manufactured products). It’s nestled in a lovely courtyard in Pasadena, it’s full of fine pieces and the people are great. Say hello to Lynn and Christina!
