Together we have more superpowers than we thought imaginable. We need us. We need our art, our spirit, our ideas, and our passion. We need for all of us to work on our dreams.
I'm serious here. Otherwise, what the hell are we fighting for? Let's take the rest we need, mourn as we must, and get to work. For we have too much to lose if we don't and everything to gain if we do. This will take work and beauty and love and constant vigilance. It will take our stubbornness, our anger, our giving natures, our creativity, our compassion, and even our pettiness. All of our traits, large and small, can help us if we put them to good use. We can do this together. I need you. We need you. Let's build a better world. No one else will build it for us.

Need a little break from the political turmoil? Want to get hands-on?
Once again, I offer a safe place to explore new ideas in an encouraging environment. This workshop covers making your own pattern from a piece of clothing you love while keeping your clothes in one piece. It's December 18th from 1-4 PM in Altadena and the address will be shared with you after you sign up. For the cost of 3 alterations ($65 for early birds, $85 for later sign ups) you'll get a pattern that's guaranteed to fit you perfectly. Most of us wear variations on the same types of clothes. Maybe the shirt sleeves are longer or the pant legs are wider, but once we've found pieces that work for us, we tend to wear them again and again. That's because they work! Making a pattern from a well-loved piece means that you can re-use the shape you love with a whole different fabric, and using thrift store material means it will be fabulous, sustainable, AND economical. The best clothes to bring are simple ones without a lot of pockets or frills or zippers. Knit shirts and pants are ideal, but vintage dresses and skirts can work too. As long as the fabric is in good shape and isn't fragile or super sheer, you should be good. If you're not sure, give me a shout! We'll work it out together. If you want to bring young friends and family members, kids 12 and up who can handle scissors and pins are welcome and get in for half price. Lucy the dog and I will welcome you all. PS: Knocking off a pattern means copying it. That's why copy cat designs are called knock-offs. PPS: If you know folks who would love this workshop, please share it with them. THANK YOU! (Don't worry if you've never made a pattern before. You got this. You are way more capable than you think.) |
